Artist Profile: Yoga Jewelry Shop
Martinez-based Yoga Jewelry Shop is the embodiment of Anne Manyak’s two passions: jewelry and anthropology. Borrowing yogi philosphies & mantras, and inspiration from researched ancient accessories, Anne fashions beautiful, one-of-a-kind jewelry. Her bracelets with hand-stamped reminders to “breathe” and chant “om” in those moments when the yoga mat is out of reach will surely lift your spirit, align your chakras, and encourage you to practice that downward facing dog!
The Yoga Jewelry Shop Story:
“I’ve been creating and busy with my hands since I was a little girl. Whether I was hand-sewing Barbie dresses while my Mom worked at the sewing machine, drawing pictures with my brother (nature and home were our favorite themes), or making jewelry out of seeds, petals, and flowers, the desire to create is integral to my being. While I’m attracted to all mediums and processes, there’s something magical about jewelry. I love the infinite combinations of gemstones, metals, shapes, and colors. Making jewelry takes me back to the state of bliss I felt when I made jewelry out of all of the goodies in my mother’s gardens! And, to top it off, you can wear it when it’s done!”
In Her Other Life…
“In my “real” life, I’m a curriculum writer / editor who specializes in history, social studies, and the humanities. I’m an education geek and just completed my second Masters Degree! I’m an MBA and my other Masters is in Anthropology.”
Did You Know?
“Who would think there’s a connection between Anthropology and jewelry? Well, an education geek like myself! I can pour over books with ancient jewelry and designs from around the world for hours on end. Sometimes I’m so struck by the beauty that I’ll be in tears. For me, the legacy and spirit of a culture is embodied in art!!”
